LAist doesn't usually care what's happening in our eastern neighbor Arizona, but we've got to admit we're curious about the new Grand Canyon West observation platform opening 375 miles away on March 28.
Those wacky Hualapai Nation folks have gone and constructed a glass "sky platform" that will allow visitors to stare a mile straight down into the heart of the Grand Canyon. This seems like the perfect attraction for LA's adrenaline junkie community, and we can't help but wonder when the first local base jumper will be arrested for leaping from this thing? Hope the Hualapai don't skimp on security.

Why do you hope they don't skimp on security? Do you think it is illegal? They are a soverign Indian Nation, for all you know they might be ok with it. They might even promoted it as an attraction. Just imagine if you could go watch BASE jumpers jump... that would increase visitors multitudes. Look at what legal jumping has done for places such as MOAB, Utah, and Twin Fall Idaho... Jumpers need a place to eat and sleep and tons of people go to watch.
True that! You would think a person whos very job depends on the FREEDOM of speech! would not judge but remain open minded to new and different things! What does it harm you? What because you lack the balls or know how to execute such a daring feat! I say arrest you!!!! For being so boring and sounding like my Grandmother(Ancient)you may or would have much better things to write if you had that thing called experience behind you! But,we know that isn't going to happen so as you type your articles about how WE should be arrested from your safe (boring)Apartment at least we are living.ps snitchs get stiches
Yeah, why not. I'd love to see people jump from that thing. Don't think I'd do it myself, though. And I think base jumping's legal. As long as the participants don't trespass, I say more power to them.
BASE jumpers rock AND roll!!!!!!!!!! Why do you care if they do or dont. Mind your own business!!!
And I suppose commercial ventures are somehow more respectful towards sacred sites than a few jumpers who leave no trail of where they have been?
