Snowboarding Can Be Expensive

vladrad.jpgExperience has taught us there is no such thing as a cheap weekend in Park City.

But Laker forward Vladimir Radmanovic learned his weekend is going to cost and extra $500,000.

You see, he had never been snowboarding before and thought it sounded like a fun way to spend All Star weekend with his friends. Several little problems crept up, however. First, Radmanovic had never snowboarded before and, as anyone who’s done it can tell you, learning to snowboard is a lot about falling. Which brings us to the second problem: Radmanovic’s contract expressly forbids him going snowboarding, because he could get injured.

The rest of it sounds like an “I Love Lucy” episode, but without the laughs. Of course Radmanovic falls and separates the shoulder on his shooting arm. Then he comes back and tells Laker brass and the media that he “slipped on a patch of ice.” Nobody buys this. A few days later Radmanovic says his guilty conscious is too much and he tells the truth (well, that or he figured out he was going to get caught in a lie, you decide).

Bottom line, the Lakers are fining him $500,000 for the misadventure. Which is about 10% of his salary this year.

Frankly, the way the Lakers biggest off-season acquisition has performed this season, they should have fined him for his play. But this will have to do.
