Thirty-three employees of the sleepy little Santa Barbara News-Press have been fired or quit in the past seven months and yesterday six more were axed knocking the total up to 39.

The latest half dozen were shown the door after allegedly going to a freeway overpass and holding up signs encouraging people to cancel their subscriptions to the embattled newspaper.

"Cancel Your Newspaper Today" and "Protect Free Speech" were hung during the morning rush hour, according to the AP, which is something that News-Press owner Wendy McCaw frowns on.

One can only imagine the sweet life that working at a paper in Santa Barbara with no competition would be like. Easy, carefree, amazing.

Hopefully what will come from this will be McCaw forced to sell the paper at a low price, and the employees belonging to a union, and the News-Press rising from the ashes, hopefully with a bunch of UCSB Daily Nexus alumns at the reigns.
