Do More Than Vote

LAist doesn't belong to a political party. We believe that the Republicans are idiots and the Democrats are cowards and the rest of parties seem comfortable being perpetual losers.

Today, for example the President signed a so-called anti-terror law that the ACLU deemed "one of the worst civil liberties measures ever enacted in American history."

"The president can now - with the approval of Congress - indefinitely hold people without charge, take away protections against horrific abuse, put people on trial based on hearsay evidence, authorise trials that can sentence people to death based on testimony literally beaten out of witnesses and slam shut the courthouse door for habeas petitions," ACLU executive director Anthony Romero said in a statement. - The Australian

Thirty-nine Dems basically laid down in order to let this bill pass through Congress, one that allows for the CIA to now legally have secret prisions, makes it easier to torture, and wipes its ass with the former right of habeas corpus:

The law contains a highly-controversial provision stripping detainees of the right to file habeas corpus petitions in federal court and also allows hearsay evidence to be admitted during proceedings, so long as the presiding officer determines it to be reliable. - Jurist

To us, this would be a day where the would-be leaders of the Democratic Party would be shrieking wildly in the streets as our rights continue to get bulldozed by the power-hungry Right. It should have also been a day where the third parties should have rented the largest bullhorns they could find to scream: "SEE WHY WE'RE NOT REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS? SEE HOW THEY ARE?"

Instead it was just another Tuesday.
