Heroic service and great comics at Earth 2

As you may already know, LAist likes to showcase neighborhoods that are unique, interesting and fun to go to. There are a lot of those in LA and we are lucky because of it. We also like to highlight places, restaurants or stores that go the extra mile to ensure that the customer gets what he or she wants and leaves happy. This time around its a store that caters to the comic book and graphic novel lover in you or that you know: Earth 2 Comics in Sherman Oaks.

We recently went into Earth 2 to get a few comic books and one or two graphic novels (we got a long weekend after all. might have time to do some reading) and as usual, were greeted by name and with a smile. Not only do the guys that work there remember you, they remember what you purchased last time and are able to recommend something that you might be interested in based on what you got in the past.

They are also extremely knowledgeable, genuinely love what they do and really love comics and that enthusiasm shows in the way they take care of business. They respond very well to questions and give advice without sounding like you are an idiot for asking. We've been in many stores in LA that treat customers as something to be barely tolerated and a nuisance. This is definitely not the case at Earth 2.

So, the next time you need the latest issue of Marvel's "Civil War" or the latest "Batman" or other comic book, give Earth 2 a try. Yes, you could probably get what you want from Amazon or somewhere else but we like to support the local stores, especially the ones that treat people like people. We need more of that in this town. So, go give Judd and Carr at Earth 2 your business. They'll appreciate it.

As a bonus, after the jump, here's what we got at the store today and what we recommend for your reading pleasure this weekend:

1. Battlestar Galactica #1 - First issue of a new series based on the great TV show.

2. Y - The Last Man #6 - This is a great series of graphic novels. Highly recommended. Start with #1 and you'll end up reading them all.

3. Astonishing X-Men #14 - New adventures of the X-Men written by "Buffy", "Angel" and "Firefly" creator Joss Whedon. Try it, you'll like it.

4. Civil War #3 - The best series from Marvel in a long, long time. Action, suspense, pathos, irony, this series has got it all. Most of the major characters in the Marvel universe are involved so you'll find a favorite soon enough.

5. All Star Batman and Robin #4 - Written by the great Frank Miller of "Sin City" fame and drawn by the great Jim Lee, this series has everything Batman fans could ask for.
