This LAist poster made a trip earlier this week to Richmond, VA, for a family thing.
Now everyone knows that things can be a little different in the South than here in LA --
people move at a much slower pace below the Mason-Dixon line.
However, Richmond's not even the deep South, and when we spotted this sign out in front of a local supermarket -- a Ukrops -- out there, we had to laugh.
And it got us thinking, what if we were driving by a Piggly Wiggly in Alabama, do you think they'd post signs for, say, 8 MPH?

Okay, so, i'm from the south, and there are strange street signs there such as "Deaf Child Area" "Deer Crossing" etc, but as far as the driving goes, I would venture to say that southerns tend to drive faster than people here.
Sure, some of that might have to do with the fact that there's 99% less cars there than there are here, but the other thing is, most people don't slow down and rubberneck for a cop that has pulled someone over. Usually if this happens, it's open season to drive FASTER if for no other reasoning than "he got that guy, can't get me!"
Anyway, about the sign, it's probably on some college campus or something, because on the campus of the University of Mississippi (from what I understand) has speed limits of 18 mph in honor of Peyton Manning's father, Archie.
Okay, rant over.
They post strange speed limits like that so people are more likely to remember them. 23 miles and hour in neighborhoods comes up as well
