Dear Miss Universe Pageant,

This story is free to read because readers choose to support LAist. If you find value in independent local reporting, make a donation to power our newsroom today.

You may not know this, Miss Universe, but LAist loves you.

We welcome you to our fair city and we are here for your every need.

When we found out that you were going to be here in LA we nearly fell over. We ordered this beautiful weather that you are experiencing, we arranged for a beautiful full moon tomorrow, we even filled out all the credentials needed to hype your historic pageant -- but, alas, we have gotten no confirmation in return.

Miss Universe, we want to show all of Los Angeles and the world what sort of beauty, talent, and humanity these lovely ladies from around the world have. And we want to celebrate you for organizing it all.

It's our belief that if you hooked us up with a schedule and a photo pass, we could cover the two weeks that the young women are in LA better than anyone. And we'd do it daily, and we'd do it in a fun and respectful manner. Right now the ladies have to take pictures of themselves!

This should be bigger than the World Cup.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
