Athens was named after the Greek goddess Athenia.

It rained in Mexico city Friday while the public watched the Mexico-Angola match that ended in a tie. Tehran issued a ban on motorcycles (to avoid anti-government protests) before todays Iran-Portugal match, which they lost 2-0 and took them out of the running. Berlin will be hosting the World Cup final on July 9.
Do these facts tell you anything about where my mind is lately? EL CHAVO!

"Makati" means "itchy" in the Philippines. It's the "Century City" of the Manila region. Which makes me wonder why they didn't just have Manila as a sister city.

Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. Auckland has the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere. Auckland is peppered with inactive volcanoes. Auckland is known as the city of sails. Auckland has hosted the America's Cup. Auckland has more Polynesians living there than anywhere else in the world. And for fun, the Auckland Harbor Bridge is known as the coathanger.

When i was 6 i went to McDonalds for my first time in Moscow, waited almost an hour in line and ate (at the time) the best meal of my life.

Giza is home to the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx.

Jakarta is where all those clove cigarettes came from that the kids smoked in every store on Melrose in the 80s.

Mumbai, India was Bombay, India
Now it's Mumbai, India, not Bombay, India
Not too long time gone, Bombay, India
Why did Bombay get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Sikhs...

and Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Christians and Musilims!

* * *

St. Petersburg was Leningrad, Russia
Now it's St. Petersburg, not Leningrad, Russia
Not too long time gone, Leningrad, Russia
Why did Leningrad get the works?
That's nobody's business but the post-Soviet Russian reformers!

Every gal in Leningrad
Lives in St. Petersburg, not Leningrad
So if you've a date in Leningrad
She'll be waiting in St. Petersburg.

(Apologies to the Johns.)

That photo... F the police and most of all f those ghetto birds.

First, you're missing San Salvador, which was added lin 2005 (so it may not be on the list yet).

Also, I can't find records of the following Sister Cities for Los Angeles:

Melbourne, Autralia

Moscow, Russia

Yerevan, Armenia

And finally, check out what's coming soon: Beirut!

melbourne has australian rules football afl.com.au

and good shopping and beaches nearby. bit like LA (but much more relaxed).

Busan, South Korea, like Los Angeles, is home to one of the world's biggest and busiest ports. Coincidentally, the Korean Bell of Friendship, a monument dedicated to veterans of the Korean War and to the ongoing friendship between America and Korea, is located overlooking the Port of Los Angeles harbor complex.

Vancouver is the West Coast's anti-LA. it's a beautiful, clean city that allows controlled prostitution and herb toking in certain designated places.

you've obviously never been to Hollywood, mr dislocator

touche', Mr. Pierce... of course, 'allows' and 'has no control over' are divergent concepts.

also, the Vancouverites are so exceedingly polite, they let bears finish their porridge when breaking-and-entering:
