KCRWmusic.com launches (kind of)
We were excited to hear that KCRW is taking its music shows online in a brand new 24-hour music website. How smart: KCRW isn't just a station, it's a brand. Take a formerly local radio broadcast and leverage it as a national online brand and soon they'll be raking in even more donations from all over the country, not just Santa Monica and Brentwood and Silverlake.
KCRWmusic.com launched today after the close of music director Nic Harcourt's show, Morning Become Eclectic. Did you know he got the name as a hand-me-down? From Chris Douridas, who we think got it from Tom Schnabel.
Anyway, they're all on the new music site, except for Tom Schnabel who doesn't get much respect. Just a handful of music shows will be on KCRWmusic.com, rotating through 3 times per day. We think it would be really cool if they started proving online-only programming — some special shows to fill those repeat hours. But we ask too much.
Way too much, as it turns out. KCRW's new site is full of glitches. No pages load for the Anne Litt or Kristina Anderson shows. The Top 5 requested CDs are almost a month old, for the week of February 27. The "now playing" feature works only in a pop-up (ugh) and is barely legible. It looks like a front page has launched that links to a bunch of kind of creaky, old, barely updated features.
We've worked in web development and we can feel KCRW's pain. We can't decide: Should this new site get an A for effort, or is it just annoying?
