See, not all reality tv is bad. This Sunday's episode of ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition will feature a house built "California Friendly." What is a California Friendly home? One with water-saving and weather-sensitive construction and design in mind. Southern California Water Conservation agencies have launched a 4 month ad campaign to encourage home owners and designers to be more environmentally conscious about their real estate.
They've even launched a website to support the initiative.
Ty and the gang will explain how they did it all on the appropriately titled How'd They Do That? on Monday, March 28th. This isn't the first time Extreme Makeover has worked on local homes with the interest in improving Los Angeles. Last year, carpenter Paige Hennis worked with Hollywood's Habitat for Humanity for an all-women house build in Long Beach.

Great news...it's about time a few more Hollywood people got on board with eco-friendly housing. Great, they all drive Priuses (I drive an Insight), but it's kind of silly when they, at the same time, live in 10,000 square foot mansions, sans solar power, etc.
PS For any other ecologically conscious people out there, I just bought a set of reusable grocery bags. For more on that, here's a blog item I wrote on it, with a photo of the bag. (I got the set -- bags for all your groceries, plus reusable bags for the fruits and veggies.)
I should note that the water agencies launched the site and not Extreme Makeover Home Edition. They are just highlighting good eco-friendly design on their show.
I'm using my SXSW bags as my reuseable grocery bags and they are awesome. It's pretty cool walking through the grocery store with your own bag and you know exactly how much crap you've really bought. It is an uncommon thing, though, as the baggers are always shocked when I hand them my cloth carry-all.
