An investigation into political corruption may have wiped out nearly the entire San Jacinto City Council. Four of the city’s five council members have been charged with money laundering, bribery, perjury, and other crimes.

A white supremacist group plans to stage an anti-illegal immigration rally in Riverside this weekend. It’s the second one held by members of the Detroit-based National Socialist Movement in the past month. Police broke up the first rally after the group clashed with hundreds of counter-protesters.

Authorities in San Bernardino County have filed murder and arson charges against a man believed responsible for starting the Old Fire back in 2003. It burned more than 90,000 in the San Bernardino National Forest, destroyed hundreds of homes, and led to several deaths.

Rain is also expected over the San Bernardino Mountains. Recent wildfires there scorched about 10,000 acres of forest land. Crews contained one of those fires just a few days ago. KPCC’s Steven Cuevas says there hasn’t been much time to prepare for possible mudslides.

Fire crews continue to battle the Sheep Fire burning east of Wrightwood in the San Gabriel Mountains. It's burned 7,500 acres with 20 percent of it contained. KPCC reporter Steven Cuevas has been covering the fire. He tells Steve Julian fire aircraft are assessing the areas of concern. Also evacuations have been lifted for residents in the Lytle Creek area.

The Sheep Fire burning east of Wrightwood in the San Gabriel Mountains has scorched 7,500 acres. It’s now 20 percent contained. KPCC reporter Steven Cuevas is in Wrightwood covering the fire. He tells Steve Julian the winds have calmed down, and firefighters are optimistic about getting a good handle on the fire today.

Forty-five years ago this weekend, the biggest ticket in town was the Beatles, live at the Hollywood Bowl. It was the first time John, Paul, George, and Ringo had performed in Los Angeles. The performance spawned a live album and became an indelible memory for thousands of kids. KPCC’s Steven Cuevas got a front row seat with some Beatle fans who were there.

Forty-five years ago this weekend, the Beatles made their Southern California debut at the Hollywood Bowl. Years later, some of the music from that performance turned up on the band’s only live album. For many fans lucky enough to score a ticket, the Beatles at the Bowl was about more than music. A 25-foot tower made from scrap wood is set for demolition next month in Claremont. Well... not so much “demolition” as careful dismantling. It’s a temporary art installation called “Babel: the Chaos of Melancholy,” and it’s on view at Pitzer College’s Nichols Gallery. KPCC’s Steven Cuevas followed the Tower’s rise; he has this report.
