For the select few that choose to walk the dietary path less traveled, we're here for you. Broccoli huggers and tofu touters rejoice - we've found one of the best new Vegan restaurants in town, Vegan Glory. In the spirit of the Tofu Festival, LAist is exploring some of the best new veggie-friendly options around town. Vegan Glory most definitely tops the list. Boasting a diverse menu which they define as "Vegan Thai Cuisine,"...

Most actors fancy themselves to be a jack (or jane) of all trades.... Few actually are. We were therefore surprised when we stumbled upon an older, but noteworthy recording by Santa Barbara native Kathleen Wilhoite. Although she's an accomplished musician, Wilhoite is probably best known for her 1996 stint as Chloe Lewis on ER. Don't let that scare you away. She warrants a listen. We encourage you to check out Wilhoite's earthy 2000 release...

Excuses like, "My dog ate my summons," "I'm agoraphobic," and even the credible, "I'm not compensated for time off," are all useless. Unless you're a septuagenarian or perhaps an officer of the peace, there's no escaping. Yes... Despite our best efforts, even LAist was subject to jury duty. We took a deep breath and realized if fellow journalist and media guru Oprah could do it, then we would cherish our spirit and perform our...

Long before Sami Brady, Erica Cane or Amanda Woodward sudsed their way into our pop culture, Shakespeare's headstrong shrew, Katharina, reigned supreme. Why all the bad soap references? Well, Shakespeare's plays essentially were mini soap operas. In The Taming of the Shrew, he gave us catfights, swapped identities, love triangles and more innuendoes than you could shake a stick at... wait, that came out wrong. It's surprising then, that L.A. seems too hip to...

If you're bored in Los Angeles, just step outside. You'll find excitement when you least expect it. That's why we love this city. Case in point: last night we were content to "take it easy." That translated to a quick bite at the Farmer's Market before watching Rockstar INXS at home. Lost in our thoughts (and a tasty falafel), we suddenly heard the distant clamoring of percussion and guitars. A slave to the music--and...

Here at LAist, we pride ourselves on having a critical ear. In May, we sang the praises for the new kid on the block, 93.1 "JACK" FM. After all, who can resist vintage rock anthems by Journey, Stevie Nicks and Aerosmith? Rush hour has never been so much fun. So what's the problem? In a word: history. It has a tricky way of repeating itself. As rebellious as 93.1 appears to be, the nasty...

Angelenos in search of intelligent entertainment needn't look any further than LACMA's Friday night jazz series. Accessible, low-key and free, it is possibly one of L.A.'s best kept secrets (until now). Upon entering the courtyard, we could already feel our blood pressure drop. The smooth music provided an interesting contrast to the city and museum architecture. The audience was decidedly mixed, consisting of a post-work cocktails crowd, families and locals from Park La Brea....
