Authorities in Long Beach are classifying a "brutal attack" on two gay men as hate crimes, and today announced the arrest of two suspects, reports the Press-Telegram. The attack took place Monday night in the vicinity of The Gay and Lesbian Center of Greater Long Beach.

Remember John Haig Marshall of Redondo Beach? The former reserve police officer in his mid-50s has pleaded no contest on accusations he drugged, raped, and shaved the body hair of his onetime "drinking buddy," a 29-year-old former pal. Marshall was sentenced today to serve three years as part of a plea deal.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has released the cause of death report for actor and National Football League star Bubba Smith, who died in August in Baldwin Hills. Smith was 66. The first listed cause of death is listed as "acute phentermine intoxication." So basically, Smith's death was in part caused by an OD of diet pills.

When news of veteran radio personality Jim Ladd losing his gig at KLOS broke, foremost from Ladd himself was that he didn't get to say goodbye. He will grace the airwaves Saturday from 4-7 p.m. on KFI, having been offered by the station manager to do the "goodbye" show he was not able to do at KLOS.
