What's going on lately in the L.A food scene? Chew on this:

Take a Bao Bows in Studio City
It was a Halloween opening day for Take a Bao in Studio City, a fast-casual Asian-inspired eatery. We're told "guests will enjoy a contemporary menu by Chef Gavin Portsmouth and a full bar program including beer, wine, signature cocktails and even beer floats!" Think you know Bao? Here they get a few twists: "instead of the traditional bun style, this bao is rolled flat and filled with the freshest ingredients including local produce and all natural meats and proteins." (Think Duck Confit, Banh Mi-style pork.)

Fall Cocktails at Next Door Lounge
Barflies swoon over The Next Door Lounge's Joseph Brooke, and his drinks ain't bad either! The fairly new kid on the block in the upscale cocktail scene has debuted their fall cocktail menu, comprised of seven each of classics and nods to the 1920s. Options include "Scot’s Pear" (Black Grouse blended scotch, tawny port, house ginger syrup, pear and lemon juice) and "Black Buffy" (Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Solerno blood orange liqueur, lemon, crème de menthe, and fresh blackberry), to name a couple.Eat My Blog is Back!
This year's Eat My Blog charity bake sale is scheduled for Saturday, December 10 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event will be held in Old Pasadena at Pita Jungle. As always, you can expect tables heavy with sweet (and savory) treats baked by L.A.'s food bloggerazzi.

Chef Andrew Kirschner Preps Tar & Roses
First, here's this info about Tar & Roses: "The phrase “tar and roses” sums up the contrasting yet complementary characteristics of the storied Nebbiolo varietal, which can make the wait for great vintages of Barolo and Barbaresco a lesson in patience and anticipation." Did you follow that? Okay, here's what you need to know: Chef Andrew Kirschner, formerly of Wilshire, is prepping to open his Santa Monica restaurant later this month or early next month. What will you eat? We're told "the menu at Tar & Roses is like no other, defined only by Kirschner’s love of earthy rusticity and robust flavors."

Hotel Erwin Chills Out With "Barn to Belly" Chic at Barolo
Barlo is a chill hangout serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner "barn to belly" dishes at Venice's Hotel Erwin. The new space is meant to be a comfy contrast to the hotel's tonier High Rooftop Lounge. Barlo's bevs will have "a focus on simplicity and fresh farmer’s market ingredients." On the patio you'll find what they're calling a "local's only living room" with a communal table, graffiti artwork in the "industrial farm" style.
