  • Tonight Anglo-Swedish rockers Razorlight will be headlining a sold-out show at the Troubadour with locals Red Cortez in tow. San Franciscan-bred singer-songwriter Miranda Lee Richards is kicking off a month-long residency at Spaceland. And, lastly, LAist favorites Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2) will be performing at the Hotel Café with San Diegan singer-songwriter Greg Laswell (LAist Interview, Review, #2, #3, #4, #5). But we strongly recommend heading over to Cinespace to catch English electro-pop sensation Little Boots.
  • Tonight legendary Leeds-based DJ Nightmares On Wax will be headlining the Echoplex. Denver's own gypsy rockers DeVotchKa are poised to play to a sold-out crowd at the Viper Room. LAist favorites Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2) will be coming through Spaceland with Le Switch. Local instrumentalist Bobb Bruno is set to rock at the Echo. And, lastly, experimental electronic outfit Gang Gang Dance will be performing at the Smell in Downtown with LA-based Italo-disco act Nite Jewel. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Silver Lake Lounge to catch the opening night of Local Natives' month-long residency. The Outline, Lemon Sun and Aushua are slated to kick off the show.
  • LetIndieLive.com, an unadorned and particularly self-aware website, acts as the conduit for transmitting the input of the public. The slate gray site, emblazoned with the Tennysonian maxim "It is better to do something, rather than nothing," is an extraordinary mixture of harsh reality and lofty ideals.
  • Tonight Grammy-nominated electro-pop act Shiny Toy Guns will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe at Universal City Walk for KROQ's Super Bowl Party. Local folk duo Alex & Sam (LAist Interview, Review) are slated to play Home Restaurant in Silver Lake. This week's edition of Part Time Punks at the Echo will be centralized around the Cure. And, lastly, Olympia's own underground rock king Calvin Johnson is set to rock out at the Smell with local singer-songwriter Devon Williams in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to see Highland Park-based indie-pop outfit Fol Chen, who will be accompanied by their contemporaries Light FM and Radars to the Sky (LAist Review, #2, #3).
  • Tonight Grammy-nominated pop singer Katy Perry (LAist Review, #2) will be performing to a sold-out crowd at the Wiltern. Legendary Compton-bred rapper/producer DJ Quik is slated to headline the Keyclub. San Diegan indie rockers the Black Heart Procession will be rocking out at the Echo with the Mumlers and Warpaint in tow. And, lastly, if you're willing to brave the depths of Santa Ana, then head on over to the Underground to catch Philly's best psych rock outfit Dr. Dog. OC garage-rockers the Growlers, who will be ringing in their latest volume of tunes, are poised to kick off the show. (Canceled!) But we insist that you spend the evening with local singer-songwriter Kenneth Pattengale and the Found Object Orchestra at El Cid. Mr. Pattengale recently released his six full-length effort and his first for Milan Records, Storied Places, exhibiting a jolt of folksy wisdom well beyond his years
  • Your sleepless nights of anxiously awaiting an official announcement are over. After a plethora of postponements, swirling rumors and premature prattle, the 2009 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival roster is finally here. At approximately 12:26 AM, festival organizers divulged one of the most highly anticipated line-ups of the year via their website. And this year's bill boasts an eclectic array of 120 some-odd acts, spanning both old and new. Prominent headliners from times...
  • Tonight Grammy-nominated English soul singer Adele will be headlining a sold-out show at the Wiltern. Glasgow's own indie rockers Franz Ferdinand are slated to perform at Amoeba Records early on in the evening. LA-based singer-songwriter Eleni Mandell will be gracing the stage at the Hotel Café with the equally buzzworthy "one-woman band" Theresa Andersson (LAist Interview, Review). And, lastly, English rapper Lady Sovereign is set to flow at the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Largo at the Coronet to catch producer/musician extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Review).
  • Tonight Chicago-based butt rockers Disturbed will be performing at the Hollywood Palladium. New York's own folk rock outfit Nickel Eye, which features none other than Nikolai Fraiture of the Strokes, are set to headline the Troubadour with Low vs Diamond in tow. The Echoplex will play host to a handful of French DJs, including LAist favorite Anoraak. Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek is performing solo at the Largo at the Coronet. And, lastly, local experimental collective Heard of Elephants will be performing with Collisions at the Unknown Theater. But we strongly suggest that you head over to the Key Club to catch D.C.-based rapper Wale, who has been exalted by the likes of Pitchfork and LA's foremost hip-hop expert Jeff Weiss.
  • There's nothing more piteous than a prominent media personality attempting to be hip and omniscient (except maybe attempting to give a blind dude a high five). And that's exactly what happened a few moments ago when American Idol host and "celebrity wrangler" Ryan Seacrest posted an unsubstantiated, preemptive bill for this year's Coachella via his website and twitter. The post, entitled "Coachella Line-Up Announced!," surfaced around 11 AM this morning, touting Nine Inch Nails, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Katy Perry, The Killers, Neil Young, Adele, Foo Fighters, Public Enemy and Lupe Fiasco as headliners.
  • Tonight legendary Beach Boys front man Brian Wilson (LAist Interview, Review) will be performing at the Wiltern. Deep-blues troubadour William Elliott Whitmore is slated to play to a sold-out crowd at the El Rey Theatre with City and Colour. The rather prolific Charlotte-based singer-songwriter Benji Hughes will be gracing the stage at Spaceland for this week's edition of Club NME. Recent Kemado Records signees the Soft Pack (formerly known as the Muslims) will be rocking out at the Echo early in the night. The Silver Lake Lounge is hosting a handful of exemplary local acts like Divisadero, Tigers Can Bite You and the French Semester. And, lastly, Foreign Born side project Big Search will be coming through Three Clubs in Hollyweird. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet to catch Oklahoma-bred singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb.
