  • To steal from the GEICO commercials, Dodger fans are happier than a witch at a broom factory, a slinky on an escalator. After what had been a quiet offseason, the Dodgers exploded all over baseball signing free agent right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke on Saturday and South Korean southpaw Ryu Hyun-Jin on Sunday. Including the posting fee for Ryu, the Dodgers spent more than $210 million in two days for the two starting pitchers.
  • The Dodgers and South Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin were unable to agree to a contract agreement. After the Dodgers won exclusive negotiating rights with the pitcher by posting a bid north of $25 million last month to the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization, the two sides had 30 days to reach a contract agreement.
  • All of the future television money has finally landed the Dodgers one of the more coveted free agents this offseason. The Dodgers will be signing former AL Cy Young Award winning starting pitcher Zack Greinke.
  • After the latest breakdown of talks between the NHL and the NHL Players Association, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters that he was disappointed beyond belief. NHL executive director Donald Fehr looked shocked in his own press conference.
  • Is it too late for the Lakers to go back to Bernie Bickerstaff? Things are not all right, the Lakers unable to hold onto fourth quarter leads. A lot of fingers are pointed at Dwight Howard's shitty free throw shooting.
  • According to the Los Angeles Kings, public address announcer David Courtney, 54, died. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
  • On Friday the NHL canceled games through December 14 and the All Star Weekend set for Columbus, Ohio on January 26 and 27. And so the lockout drags on.
  • For the first time since 1961 raindrops were spotted during the annual USC-UCLA game. It seems like it has been just as long since the Bruins beat the Trojans. But as the rain was pouring onto the Rose Bowl turf on a day with bizarre results, the scoreboard left no room of incredulity in the Bruins 38-28 victory over the Trojans giving them the Pac-12 South title.
  • These are strange times for college football in Southern California with things looking bright for UCLA. UCLA comes into Saturday with an 8-2 record while USC is 7-3. UCLA (17, AP; 16, USA Today; 17, BCS) comes into the matchup ranked higher than USC (21, AP; 21, USA Today; 18, BCS) for the first time since 2001 when the 20th ranked Bruins met the unranked Trojans in the Coliseum. This has all the makings of one of the classic rivalry games which has a lot of people taking note.
  • The Clippers last night convincingly beat the Miami Heat at STAPLES Center 107-100 to run their record up to 6-2. The Clippers have beat the Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs and the Heat all in convincing fashion.
