  • I was ready to watch Manti Te'o's confessional with Katie Couric. I had my snacks and refreshments laid out in front of me. I turned off my phones. I made sure my laptop was out of reach. It took me three minutes before I switched over to SportsCenter and moved on with my day.
  • Three minutes, 41 seconds. That's the time it took for the reality to hit the Kings, the reality of having to defend a championship. Reality bit the Kings as they lost their season opener 5-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
  • Beards and dope. The spotlight in sports this week has been focused on everything but sports itself. Thankfully we have the Clippers and the Lakers here in Los Angeles to focus on, for one day at least.
  • I'm an awful person. I haven't been to Kings practice at all this week save for their STAPLES Center exhibition which made me question my existence. So I'm going to jump into the season headfirst tomorrow morning. Irish coffee anyone?
  • I have a big problem with Notre Dame and their credibility issue. Their policy of protecting its football players at all costs makes their defense of Manti Te'o and his fake girlfriend ring very hollow.
  • In the late 1990's and early 2000's, JT LeRoy was the hot young author. His harrowing works included the novel Sarah and short story collection The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things and detailed child molestation and rape, prostitution, drug abuse that struck a nerve with the public. His fans included Dennis Cooper, Gus Van Sant, Shirley Manson of Garbage. Even Asia Argento directed and starred in a film adaptation of The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things in 2004.
  • Sunday evening the NHL and the NHL Players' Association officially signed all the documents needed to end what was perhaps the most idiotic lockout in sports history. That meant the Kings were finally able to officially release their 48-game schedule.
  • The NHL already killed off nearly three months of the season, so what's another several days? The Kings held a press conference this afternoon at STAPLES Center to help kick off the new season which is set to drop on January 19. For the Kings, stability and familiarity will be the key to get through the truncated 48-game season sprint.
  • I've been sloppy lately. It seems like I have to make some corrections and retractions. 1. Dodger Stadium renovations update. A Dodgers spokesman contacted me today and emphasized that in order to widen concourses and add seating areas for fans in wheelchairs, seats will not be removed from the Top Deck section. The last two to four rows will be removed from the pricier Reserve, Loge and Field levels to widen their concourses. They also reiterated that no decisions have been made on where to place the remaining seats.
  • The Baseball Writers Association of America elected no one into the Hall of Fame. Enshrinement requires 75% of the vote of which first-time nominee Craig Biggio came closest with 68.2% of the vote. This is the eighth time that the BBWAA did not elect anyone, the first time since 1996.
