  • Just when you thought you knew everything, you find out you know nothing. The Grade II San Felipe Stakes was billed to be a duel between Bob Baffert's horse Flashback and Doug O'Neill's horse Goldencents. Imagine everyone's surprise when Jerry Hollendorfer's Hear the Ghost charged on the outside to win the stakes and the 50 points in the Kentucky Derby points system.
  • Santa Anita is an integral part of the lead up to the Kentucky Derby on May 4. Saturday's Grade II San Felipe Stakes will play a big role in determining the field for the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.
  • After scoring eight goals in the two third periods this week, the magic finally wore off for the Kings. Instead it was the worst period for the Kings as they gave up three goals in the Dallas Stars 5-2 victory.
  • I honestly don't know what to say. The Kings had no business beating the St. Blues tonight. But there they stood on the ice after 60 minutes having won the game 6-4 in a manic four-goal third period comeback.
  • The Kings went 6-1 losing only to the mighty Chicago Blackhawks on the road while I was on vacation. Their first game when I got back was an ugly road loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Maybe it's me? Well it wasn't. Jeff Carter's hat trick erased me off of the scape goat list in the Kings 5-1 win over the Nashville Predators.
  • Matinee games are rough. Kings head coach Darryl Sutter likes to call them "pajama parties." The Clippers certainly played like that against the Oklahoma City Thunder throughout most of the game.
  • How many times do you have to disappoint until people give up on you? Game On Dude proved that patience is virtue in a record-breaking win in the $750,000 Grade I Santa Anita Handicap.
  • What the hell have I missed the last couple of weeks while traipsing across the country on a road trip? Aside from the Kings starting to win games, nothing much has changed.
  • It's no longer the "Hundred-Grander". Back in 1935 when the race was first held that was a staggering amount of money. Almost 80 years later, the ten-furlong Grade I Santa Anita Handicap now boasts a purse of $750,000 for the four-year olds and up. The 2013 edition of the race features some drama. The last two winners of the Big 'Cap, Bob Baffert's Game on Dude and Bill Mott's Ron the Greek both six-year olds, will be facing off on Saturday.
  • Jerry Buss, longtime owner of the Lakers, has died at the age of 79 of complications from cancer.
