  • Former LAist contributor Eric Locko strapped a GoPro camera to his head for last night's Game 7 at STAPLES Center between the Kings and the Sharks.
  • Matt Kemp was obviously touched by Joshua Jones. Earlier this month as the Dodgers were getting swept by the San Francisco Giants, Kemp heard about the Tracy, Calif. 19-year old who was sticken with inoperable tumors and given only months to live. He went over to where the family was sitting, signed a ball and in an act of spontaneity gave Jones his cap, jersey and cleats.
  • It was a beautiful pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium honoring those who sacrificed their lives fighting for our country on this Memorial Day. There was a moment of silence and the giant flag that covered the outfield. The highlight was astronaut Buzz Aldrin throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
  • After the Dodgers took Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, you figured with Clayton Kershaw pitching today they would have a good chance of winning the series against the team with the best record in the National League. But bloop hits and broken bats broke some hearts as the Cardinals got the 5-3 victory.
  • It really does feel nice when the world just falls perfectly in place. I came to the park on Saturday wanting to address the Dodgers chronic inability to get an extra-base hit as a big reason why they can't score runs.
  • In the second inning of the Dodgers 9-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, the Dodgers scored five runs. Five runs in one inning! That certainly is a miracle of sorts.
  • "I expect Donnie to be here a long time," Dodgers president Stan Kasten told us unsavory media folk. Rumors have been spreading like wildfire about at which inning manager Don Mattingly will be fired tonight. It turned out that Mattingly managed the entire game as the Dodgers were shutout 7-0 by the St. Louis Cardinals. The press clippings went past the point of bemusement for Kasten to just sheer hilarity. Kasten decided to set the record straight.
  • For the first 38 minutes of the game, the standing-room only crowd of 18,584 in addition to the countless people watching on television looked like they would all have to go to the pharmacy to pick up some Preparation H. Which is a fancy way of saying that the game was tight and tense. Every rush and scoring chance elicited a response from the crowd.
  • The Kings are in trouble. A third period rally was a case of too little too late as the Kings took a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks. Their series is now tied at two games apiece.
  • Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. The clock keeps ticking down the games of Don Mattingly's tenure as manager of the Dodgers. Since the sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves was completed on Sunday, the fans have turned into a collective Salome demanding his head on a silver platter. Even winning two of three against the Milwaukee Brewers can't save him from the mob.
