Art and freedom go hand in hand, and the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center is celebrating that happy coupling this month with F.A.I.R.: Art of Action. Part of LGBT Pride Month, Art of Action is being hosted by the Gay and Lesbian Center along with gay rights group F.A.I.R. (Freedom Action Inclusion Rights). It will feature an original work by Shepard Fairey, as well as prints of Fairey's LOVE UNITES poster that have been customized by celebs.

Aspiring actresses across America are about to have their chance to become the next Barbara Streisand; the Center Theatre Group is holding an online casting call for the role of Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl," and auditions are open to anyone and everyone. In a statement, representatives from the company said that they were casting a wide net to find the right woman for the job.

A man and woman from Long Beach are in custody after being accused of kidnapping another woman, assaulting her and trying to force her to become a prostitute, reports the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Edward Bell, 28, allegedly kidnapped the woman, whose name isn't being released, on Thursday. After assaulting her, he and accomplice Octavia Howard, also 28, drove their victim to San Bernadino where they dropped her off on the grounds that she was to attempt prostitution.

After considering following in the foreskin footsteps of San Francisco, the woman behind an effort in Santa Monica to ban circumcision has decided to withdraw her proposed ballot initiative, reports the Jewish Journal. The measure would have copied the language used in the San Francisco initiative, which will go before voters in November. It states that the foreskin of minor boys cannot be removed barring a procedure that's necessary for health reasons, and would potentially have made the act of circumcision a misdemeanor.

LA County City Supervisor Don Knabe announced today that a baby was handed over to authorities by a woman who gave birth at a Torrance hospital on May 31, marking the third safe surrender of 2011. All three took place within the last two weeks of May. The first happened on May 20 at a hospital in West Covina, and the second at a fire station in Winnetka.

'Tis the season for scavenger hunts, apparently; HuffPo has a post up today wrote about some of LA's best searches for local treasure, all of which take place in June or July. They include Race/LA, The Amazing Gourmet Food Truck Race, CitySolve Urban Race and Culver City Exposed, which is put on by Out of the Box Events, a company that also hosts hunts in Glendale and Santa Monica.

The circumcision debate is heating up, and it's getting ugly. Recently, we reported about a proposed ban on the practice of cutting a baby boy's foreskin, that was making the rounds for signatures in Santa Monica. A bill with the same language will be put before voters in San Francisco this November.

An anesthesiologist from Orange County plead not guilty on felony charges that he molested two female patients while they were unconscious at Placentia-Linda Hospital, reports KCBS. Yashwant B. Giri, 58, was seen by his nurse molesting a 16-year-old girl, and later, a 39-year-old woman, according to LA Now.
