Don't overeat during lunch, schoolchildren of Los Angeles -- the county is about to unveil three new vans that are designed to toss you around as if you're in a 3.5 earthquake. The vans, called "Shakey-Quakeys," are replacing older versions that have been around since the 1980s, county communications deputy Tony Bell told us. The former vans reached over a million schoolchildren in their time.

A woman hired as a babysitter in Norwalk allegedly woke up to find her employer sexually assaulting her in his home after giving her a drink containing a sedative, reports ABC News. Kevin Cady, 53, allegedly found the 22-year-old sitter on a website, sittercity.com. He hired her to come to his house and watch his kids on January 11, while he was out of the house.

Today, nine happy people have upgraded their home entertainment systems for the low price of 99 cents. To celebrate the opening of a new 99 Cent Only Store in Orange, the company sold nine 22-inch flatscreen TVs for just under a dollar to the first nine people in line.

Burbank High School is mourning the death of Matthew Robert Smyser, a reportedly outgoing and popular 17-year-old student who unexpectedly died on Tuesday night in what is believed to be a suicide. According to the Burbank Leader, Smyser's body was found in his home in Shadow Hills. Grief counselors were sent to Burbank High to help students and teachers cope with the loss.

It seems like it would be common sense not to conduct illegal activities in a county-issued car, but apparently that's not the case. An employee of the LA County Department of Child and Family Services was arrested last night for soliciting a prostitute during a sting operation in Sun Valley.

Artist Lisa Lesniak works as a stylist, costume designer and visual artist, and in her free time, she volunteers to work with the homeless in Beverly Hills. Lesniak has created a series of portraits of the people she's come to know through her volunteerism, and LA Observed reports that she'll be selling some of that artwork at a show called "Among You" on March 16.
