Following last year’s deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon, the Los Angeles Marathon will see heightened security measures. Marathon runners have to pick up their own race packets and will only be allowed to bring a clear plastic bag provided to them.

Governor Jerry Brown had to speak over a group of activists today who waved signs and yelled in opposition to his administration’s fracking policies. Brown was at the second day of the California Democratic Party’s annual convention in Los Angeles to make his case for re-election after announcing his candidacy last month when he was interrupted by protesters.

While cyclists are no doubt bummed at the cancellation of the Marathon Crash Race, a pre-dawn bike race on the streets closed for the L.A. Marathon, a slower bike ride will take place instead. Instead of a race, a “fun ride” will take place at a slower pace over 20 miles instead of the original 26 miles of the previous route.

An 18-year-old man was hit and killed by a driver early this morning after he exited his car and tried to run to safety following a car accident. The teenager was a passenger in a 2000 Honda Accord that hit a big rig at 4:20 a.m. on the 5 Freeway northbound north of Tuxford Street in Sun Valley.

Chipotle and Frank Ocean's partnership for an ad has resulted in a lawsuit. Chipotle says it paid $212,500 to the R&B singer for an ad campaign, but Ocean backed out and hasn’t returned the money, leading to Chipotle suing the R&B singer.

A study from UCLA has determined tweets about sexual behavior deemed risky and using drugs correlate to areas with more HIV cases and illegal drug use, respectively. UCLA researchers combed through more than 550 million tweets from 2012 for terms such as “sex” and “get high.”

A pedestrian was hit by a Metrolink train and killed in Pacoima this morning. The crash happened at about 2 a.m. at Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road.
