Temperatures have been a bit below average for the month, perfect for breaking out your favorite sweater that's been hidden in the closet for the last few months.

Weather across Southern California, from Los Angeles to Orange County, will hover in the 70s and be mostly cloudy. It'll be warmer in the deserts and mountains.

Los Angeles and the surrounding areas will have highs in the lower to mid 70s. Expect weekend weather to warm up slightly — Saturday will see upper 70s and partly cloudy, and Sunday may also see 80s after morning clouds part for the sun.

Orange County and Los Angeles Coastal areas will be in mid-70s today, though a few sprinkles are possible. The moisture is from the remnants of Tropical Depression Kenneth. Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 70s, with some clouds and fog. It'll be slightly warmer in the Orange County interior in the upper 70s and may reach 80.

Inland areas from San Gabriel Valley, to the Inland Empire, and Riverside will be in the mid to high 70s with mostly cloudy skies.

The mountains in Riverside and San Diego mountains will see temperatures in the mid to high 70s and cloudy with isolated showers. Expect gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

The night temperatures for the region will drop into the 50s.

Coachella Valley will be mostly cloudy, with isolated sprinkles in the afternoon, between 88 and 92. At night, it'll drop to around 70 degrees. Over the weekend, the clouds will clear up and the temperatures will warm up. Saturday and Sunday highs will be in the upper 70s.

This day in history

This day in 2007, eight waterspouts and funnel clouds formed off the coasts of Orange and San Diego counties. Two waterspouts came ashore in Cardiff and Newport Beach.

  • Coastal Cleanup Day on Upper Newport Bay: Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center — 2301 University Drive, Newport Beach — OC Parks and the Newport Bay Conservancy hold a cleanup day at Upper Newport Bay. Join in to remove trash and recyclables from the marsh, waterway and beaches. This year’s goal is to remove more than 10,000 pounds of trash. COST: FREE, but registration required; MORE INFO
