World Series Game 5: Dodgers lose to Blue Jays 6-1, now trail series 3-2

A person walks on the street wrapped in a cape that reads "LA."
Fans walk through the streets of downtown Los Angeles to get to the Dodger victory parade last year. If we're going to get another parade, it will be decided later this week in Toronto.

Topline:

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 Wednesday for Game 5 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium. The Blue Jays now lead the series 3-2 as they head back to Toronto for home field advantage.

Game 5 recap: Well, for starters, Blake Snell gave up back-to-back home runs to lead off the game and it never recovered from there as the Jays kept extending their lead.

Game 4 recap: The Blue Jays won, 6-2, against the Dodgers Tuesday night. Toronto first-baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer
off L.A. starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani in the third inning, giving the Blue Jays a lead that they never relinquished.

Where things stand: Tonight was the final World Series game in Los Angeles. The remaining game (or games) will be at Rogers Centre in Toronto, where a champion will claim Major League Baseball's Commissioner’s Trophy.

How to watch the rest of the series: LAist has a guide for the best places to eat and drink near Dodger Stadium if you'd like some company while watching from afar. And you can watch on TV at home on Fox Channel 11. Or listen to the radio broadcast at 570-AM.

Go deeper: Here's our guide to this intense World Series matchup.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
