Woman In Wheelchair Dies Following Spill On Red Line Station Escalator

A woman riding the escalator in her wheelchair at the Hollywood/Highland Metro Red Line Station Tuesday took a tumble, and died the next day of her injuries.
A spokesman for Metro said the elevator "was out of service operating from the mezzanine area to the street level," according to KTLA.
The 64-year-old woman was pushed onto the escalator by her caregiver, opting not to follow Metro's suggestion riders needing elevator transport take the train to the next station.
The escalator malfunctioned, and the two women fell backwards, causing the wheelchair-bound woman to suffer head trauma. That woman died Wednesday at the hospital. Her caregiver, 48, only suffered cuts and bruises. Any criminal liability on her part has yet to be determined. An investigation is ongoing into the deadly incident.
