It's definitely not your every day discovery: A woman walking in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Compton found what appears to be a set of lungs, left out on the sidewalk. The discovery was made Sunday afternoon, according to City News Service. The woman reportedly snapped a photo of what she saw, and got in touch with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at the Century Station. Hers was the only report about the apparent organ.

The lungs were found near a business. "It was right there on the sidewalk at the start of a driveway,'' said Lt. Jack DeMello of the LASD. "You'd think someone would see someone throw it out there.''

What's unclear is if this is indeed a case of lungs at first sight; authorities say they are going to perform tests to determine if it is, in fact, a set of lungs, and if they are human or animal.

"We don't know what they are," Sgt. Robert Dean of the LASD told L.A. Now, adding: "It's really weird."
