A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after authorities say he slashed his roommate's belly open in a Westlake apartment. The two roommates, one in his late 20s and the other in his early 30s, had been drinking and got into an argument in their apartment in the 2500 block of Ocean View Avenue early Friday morning around 1:30 a.m., City News Service reports. The fight escalated and the older man slashed the younger man's torso, then fled.

Though LAPD Sgt. Melvin Gamble said that the victim's "guts were hanging out" when officers arrived, the victim was stabilized at a hospital and is expected to survive.

The attacker was found near the scene at about 2:25 a.m. and taken into custody.
