- DCist was full of buzzworthy topics last week: PETA protesters in cages, the District’s Fellowship of Unassimilated Manhattan Exiles and, of course, Bono.
- This week Seattlest saw things get worse for the Seattle Police Department, as a Federal lawsuit was filed against two of its officers; gawked as the fight for the legalization of marijuana found a new proponent in a former US Attorney; and ended the week by discussing a sure-fire way to make oenophiles really angry.
- With Pride Parade happening this week, Chicagoist gave its straight readers seven things they needed to know before attending their first parade and also found photos of Pride Parades from a quarter century ago.
- Bostonist got a huge surprise this week as James "Whitey" Bulger was captured after 16 years as a fugitive. The 19-time alleged killer apparently spent the bulk of that time in one place: a bland, rent-controlled apartment in Santa Monica. He returned to Boston with Catherine Greig for an initial court appearance, saw brother Billy Bulger, was denied bail and is now a guest of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility. Welcome home, Jimmy!
- Gothamist was jubilant that after a long fight, gay marriage was finally passed by the NY State Legislature.
- SFist found out that families are fleeing San Francisco.
- Austinist was amazed to see that an armadillo couldn’t take the heat.
- Shanghaiist got the chills after finding out a Taiwanese blogger was jailed after giving a restaurant a bad review.
- And, lastly, we learned a man was killed while trying to hold up a marijuana dispensary truck.
One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere.
