TSA Screeners at LAX Allegedly Took Bribes to Allow Suitcases Filled With Meth, Coke & Pot Through Security

Four TSA screeners at LAX allegedly took bribes in exchange for turning a blind eye to suitcases filled with drugs (while their counterparts at Burbank Airport arrested a lady for trying to bring applesauce on a plane for her elderly mother). The U.S. Attorney's Office alleges that these screeners let suitcases full of meth, coke and pot in through security in exchange for $2,400 in cash over a six month period, according to The Daily News and The Los Angeles Times.
The indicted screeners are Naral Richardson, 30, and Joy White, 27, John Whitfield, 23, and Capeline McKinney, 25. The first two were fired by the TSA, and the second two were still working at the airport until they were arrested this week. They could face life in prison if convicted. The four TSA screeners and a drug courier involved in the case are scheduled to be arraigned downtown this afternoon.
“While these arrests are a disappointment, TSA is committed to holding our employees to the highest standards,” said Randy Parsons, TSA’s security director at LAX, in a statement.
