New Pacific Coast Highway access pass available for some residents and essential businesses
Topline:
A new Pacific Coast Highway access pass is available for some residents and essential businesses, including caretakers and grocery workers.
Why it matters: The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department, city of Los Angeles and L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath’s office collaborated to create the unified PCH pass, according to the city of Malibu.
Access is still limited to Palisades and Malibu residents who live in the Palisades Fire burn areas, school buses and essential businesses, with law enforcement officials reviewing eligibility on a case-by-case basis.
Why now: The passes will start being distributed Tuesday.
Where to get them: You can pick the passes up in the following locations:
- 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday
UCLA Research Park West — Disaster Recovery Center
10850 W. Pico Blvd. - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays
Santa Monica College — Malibu Campus Interpretive Center
23555 Civic Center Way - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays
Malibu City Hall Multipurpose Room
23825 Stuart Ranch Road
The backstory: All of the original access passes will still be accepted. Officials say the county is streamlining the process to make checkpoint operations simpler and faster for residents.
How to get in: There will be access points at Chautauqua Boulevard and Carbon Beach Terrace. People are being warned to expect long delays, with several traffic restrictions still in effect, including one lane open in each direction between the access points.
