Topanga Canyon To Reopen This Weekend After Being Blocked By Landslide

A portion of Topanga Canyon Boulevard that was closed due to a landslide in March is reopening this Sunday, three months ahead of schedule. This includes the stretch between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive.
Why it matters: Businesses along the heavily traveled Topanga Canyon Boulevard (SR-27) have cited losing money because of the closure, while residents have had to deal with the inconvenience of taking detours for the past few months.
According to a statement from Gov. Gavin Newsom's office, the canyon road is also the evacuation route for Topanga Canyon residents, "making the reopening of this highway especially critical as fire season approaches."

The backstory: Caltrans initially planned to have it reopened by the fall because of ongoing land movement that made conditions too dangerous for them to conduct repairs. But after the ground became dry enough, crews were able to work around the clock to finish them.
