The Rentals, Goldenboy @ Spaceland, 7/7/07
Goldenboy opened for The Rentals last night at Spaceland and sounded beautiful and sweet. The perfect set-up for the beautiful and sweet Rentals.
We would have loved to have brought you photos of Goldenboy, whose sophomore offering, Underneath The Radio (EenieMeenie Records) is gentle and calming and warm, but our summer intern was late to the sold out show, and arrived late with our camera, plus, the settings were way off.
Speaking of which, we are now accepting resumes for unpaid summer interns, since there are suddenly two vacancies as the intern who recommended this person is also gone.
Dude from Goldenboy plays a gorgeous guitar and also plays in the Rentals, of which we have lots of pictures of, after the jump.
Straight up, when Matt Sharp left the Weezer they stopped making classic records. And as great as Rentals records are, if we're keeping it real, what's missing is that Gibson SG that Rivers relies on.

Matt guided his giddy group of super cute girls and capable dudes through more than a dozen snyth-heavy sweet tunes that should have fared so much better on radio than they did.
Speaking of faring better, what did we do to deserve getting a camera handed to us whose settings gave us this on the first picture?
Whatever, we made due. And the lighting was darker for the Rentals than during Goldenboy so we had that working against us. So we just enjoyed all the hits from the band's two cds, including new songs off their new EP, and drank those super huge beers they serve at Spaceland.

This is Rachel Haden. She plays a variety of instruments, sings like an angel, and is one of the founding members of the band. She's pretty much the cutest rock babe ever.

This is Matt Sharp. He jumped around a lot. Sang earnestly-ish, pumped his fists around. Rachel looked at the ground and smiled. Sara tried to ignore him. We think that means because she has a crush on him.
Sara Radle is one of the newer members of The Rentals. Apparently she had something good going in Texas or somewhere and Matt successfully recruited her to be part of the band. Shes gorgeous and sings great and played like three different instruments.
