Charges have been filed against a 19-year-old man who was arrested at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas on Saturday. The AP reports the man tried to take a police officer's gun in order to kill the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. On Monday, officials filed a complaint against Michael Steven Sanford, charging him with an act of violence on restricted grounds.

According to the report, Sanford approached a police officer at a rally on Saturday at the Treasure Island Casino and told him he wanted an autograph from Trump. He tried to grab the officer's gun and was arrested.

Sandford, who has a U.K. driver's license, told authorities he drove across the country to San Bernardino ahead of the rally. On Friday he went to a shooting range to learn how to use a handgun in preparation for the rally. In case his plan fell through, he told authorities that he reserved a ticket for the Trump rally in Phoenix that same day.

Sandford said he was "convinced" he would die from the planned assassination attempt. He is expected to make a court appearance on Monday.
