Southern California On Fire Alert With Arrival Of The Santa Ana Winds
The Santa Ana winds are on track to sweep through the region Monday night.
A red flag warning has been in place for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties from Sunday until 10 p.m. Monday.
For the Greater Los Angeles area, a corridor through L.A. County mountains, Santa Clarita Valley, Santa Monica Mountains and into the Malibu Coast will bear the brunt of the winds' impact, says National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Sirard.
Kern, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties are also at higher wildfire risk from dry and high winds that could reach above 60 mph.
"If any wildfire breaks out, there could be a rapid rate of spread," Sirard said.
As of this morning, Southern California Edison shut off power to 35 customers north of Porter Ranch, according to SCE spokesperson Kathleen Dunleavy.
She said a potential public safety power shutoff could affect about 280,000 customers until Tuesday.
"Based on the wind conditions, based on the vegetation and based on the fire risk that is identified, it could happen anytime," Dunleavy said.

In addition to keeping a watchful eye, fire officials say residents should secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for turbulent travel, particularly for drivers of high-profile vehicles.
