A student at Smith Elementary school in Huntington Beach found one way to bring reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic-ing to a halt today: By bringing an old grenade to class. According to Huntington Beach police, the incident was first reported around 10 a.m. says the OC Register. The device is thought to be a World War II era hand grenade.

The grenade has since been removed from the presence of any school kids, though police say "the device was supposed to be inert and it has been modified."

OC Sheriff's Department personnel, including the Bomb Squad and the Huntington Beach Fire Department are handling the case, and the school has been reaching out to parents to inform them the campus is on lockdown.
