Legendary San Onofre Beach Reopens After Two Months Of Repairs

Topline:
Surf haven San Onofre State Beach has reopened to the public, officials announced. It was closed for just over two months after storms damaged the dirt access road to the beach.
About the repairs: Over the years, storms battered the dirt roadway that allows beachgoers to park on the sand. Adding to the road damage was a broken drainage system that was installed in the bluffs above the road. A series of heavy storms early this year ultimately washed out the road.
The repair work was done by California State Parks and Camp Pendleton.
Future of the beach: The beach is currently being leased to the state by the Navy, with the lease set to expire on Aug. 31. California State Parks did not respond to a request for comment on the lease agreement.
