As a group of cyclists were riding through Highland Park last night, they encountered a group of alleged gangster's who approached the cyclists and started throwing glass bottles and vases, some following the riders with shovels. According to witnesses, many participants rode through the area as fast as possible upon hearing the commotion, but when the assailants attempted to take a girl's pushed a girl off her bike several riders went back to help her.

Accounts indicate that a bike was stolen and it was around that time that a rider was shot in the back. The victim was wearing a bag Camelback on his back, which seems to have shielded him from the full force of the impact, and is reported to be in stable condition, according to police.

This incident was one of two cyclist shootings that occurred early Saturday morning; another rider was shot in Pacoima around 1:15 am, underwent surgery at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and is expected to survive, according to abc7.com.
