Topline:

Someone is waking up a billionaire this morning after winning the $1.76 billion Powerball Jackpot Wednesday night.

The winning ticket was sold at Midway Market & Liquor in Frazier Park, an unincorporated community in Kern County with about 2,600 residents, according to the California Lottery.

About the win: This ends a 35 consecutive drawing streak without a winner that stretched back to July 19. That's when the last winning ticket of $1 billion was sold in downtown Los Angeles at Las Palmitas Mini Market.

This prize is the second-largest Powerball jackpot and U.S. lottery jackpot won according to lottery officials. The $2 billion jackpot holds the world record, which was sold back in Altadena last November.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

The winning numbers: 22, 24, 40, 52, 64 and the Powerball number was 10.

What's next: The golden ticket holder will have the option to get either a $774.1 million lump sum or 30 annual payments to add up to $1.765 billion that would increase by 5% each year.

Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
