Undercover Narcotics Agent Shot During Pursuit
An undercover narcotics officer was shot in the leg by a gunman in Westlake early this morning. The shooting happened around 3 am at the intersection of Virgil Avenue and 4th Street, police told CNS. The undercover officer was with another officer in a vehicle, they were on the trail of an SUV carrying two suspects in their investigation.
The officers lost the suspects and were making a U-turn when the SUV reappeared. Someone in the SUV opened fire and a bullet grazed the leg of the undercover officer. The officers did not fire back, police told CNS.
The officer was treated by paramedics and released. The SUV carrying the suspects was later found abandoned not far from the scene. Police set up a perimeter to search for the suspects and called in about 20 witnesses for questioning, but it doesn't sound like they've located the suspects.
