With the help of the public, the LAPD was able to take into custody the suspect they'd characterized as "desperate and reckless" whom they sought in conjunction with a crime spree Saturday morning that involved multiple attempted and successful car thefts and other criminal activities in the West Valley area.According to a release issued by the authorities, it was a call from a Van Nuys resident Sunday afternoon reporting she had seen the suspect in an area laundromat and recognized him from his description on a news broadcast. "Officers found the man in the laundry mat dressed only in boxer shorts; his clothes were in a washing machine."

In the parking lot was the Black Ford Explorer taken by the suspect, now identified as 31-year-old Tyreese Basey, which he had taken during a carjacking. The LAPD were able to take Basey into custody without incident, and booked him into Van Nuys jail on various charges including Robbery and Carjacking.
