The Los Angeles Police Department have announced the locations of two sobriety and driver's license checkpoints scheduled for this weekend. Tonight, from 8 p.m. to Saturday at 2 a.m. the LAPD will be set up in the Baldwin Hills area on La Brea Avenue between Coliseum Street and Rodeo Road. On Saturday, a checkpoint will be operating from 8 p.m. to Sunday at 2 a.m. in Chatsworth on Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Devonshire Street and Chatsworth Street. The LAPD regularly operate checkpoints as a means of heightening awareness of the dangers of impaired driving, and to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes.

If your night out includes drinking, designate a driver, take a cab, or ride the Metro. The LAPD does not to publicize all their checkpoints, and may operate additional checkpoints this weekend.

In January 2010, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck explained to us why he endorses the publication of checkpoint information: "People having foresight aren't the ones who are committing this crime. People who are thinking ahead aren't the ones that [a] checkpoint is likely to catch. I think that the publicity surrounding these things is so important that if you give a couple of locations, that's fine."
