Big City Council Bicycle Meeting Tomorrow
Tomorrow's City Council Transportation Committee meeting has an agenda full of bicycle (.pdf) issues including the master plan, LAPD and a revival of the bicycle license. The latter is one of the more peculiar items because city council just recently squashed its existence. Now a new motion is trying to have it come back. Vaguely written, it goes like this:
I MOVE that the Police Department, the Department of Transportation and the Planning Department be directed to report with recommendations for establishing a Bicycle Safety and Licensing Program in the City of Los Angeles.
"Let's hope that city officials come prepared attend the meeting to answer questions on both of these agenda items," wrote Damien Newton on Streetsblog LA in preparation for tomorrow's other agenda items. "Last week at the Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting, LADOT Senior Bike Coordinator Michelle Mowery claimed she wasn't able to answer any question about the Bike Plan becaues it's Planning Department is in charge of the plan and Alta Planning and Design did all of the work.
Other items on the dock include police relations with bicyclists, sidewalk riding, abandoned bikes on city bike racks and federal funding for cycling projects.
