A 67-year-old North Hollywood man was fatally stabbed early Saturday morning by his 28-year-old roommate. Jorge Vallardes had attempted to intervene when the suspect, Manuel Garcia-Perez, had become engaged in a fight with his girlfriend, according to City News Service.

Vallardes tried to stop his roommate from assaulting his girlfriend, but Garcia-Perez instead stabbed Vallardes. "The victim suffered multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the assault," says the Los Angeles Police Department.

Garcia-Perez fled the scene, dressed only in jeans and headed out into the wee hours in their North Hollywood neighborhood in the vicinity of Vanowen Street near Coldwater Canyon Boulevard.

Police caught up with Garcia-Perez a few hours later, and he was arrested and booked for suspicion of murder and domestic violence.
