Southern California has few ways to mark the passage of seasons. When preparations for the Tournament of Roses kick into high gear, it is as a good a reminder as any that fall is here and the holidays are just around the corner.
Today 33 finalists for the Tournament of Roses Royal Court were announced. They were chosen out of a field of over 900 young women from the Pasadena area. On Monday, the pack will be whittled down to the seven women who will take the ride down Colorado Boulevard (as well as about a bajillion other promo events in the months leading up to the Rose Parade).
One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.
