Both President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton are coming to town this week, which means traffic. President Obama will be landing at LAX at 2:20 p.m. tomorrow, City News Service reports. He'll be attending two Democratic National Committee fundraisers: one is a discussion in the Pacific Palisades hosted by director Chuck Lorre, and the other is a dinner in Beverly Hills hosted by filmmaker Tyler Perry. The President's specific whereabouts will be kept secret for security reasons, however, you can expect traffic jams and street closures in West L.A., the Pacific Palisades and Beverly Hills due to the motorcade. Obama is scheduled to take an 11:40 a.m. flight on Friday morning from LAX to San Francisco. Obama will likely be getting to and from LAX via helicopter, though the motorcade will be using surface streets to get to his specific destinations.

As Obama's Los Angeles fundraising trip ends, Clinton's begins. Clinton is doing lunch with Westfield Corp co-CEO Peter Lowry and his wife, then spending the afternoon at the home of HBO Executive Michael Lombardo and his husband, Sonny Ward. She'll wrap up the evening at actor Tobey Maguire's house, Variety reports. Clinton will be fundraising in Orange County tomorrow.

Earlier this week, an artist known as Sabo rented a number of LED traffic signs and towed them along the 405 and through Brentwood and the Pacific Palisades, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The signs read things like 'Democrats Begging 4 Money' and 'Blame Tobie (sic) Maguire.'

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
