NYC Buddies Arrive in L.A. on $5,000 Cab Fare
Last weekend, John Belitsky and Dan Wuebben hailed a cab at LaGuardia Airport and asked the driver to take them to Los Angeles. It started out as somewhat of a dare when Belitsky's father, a former NYC cab driver, was certain nobody would be up to the task.
Belitsky and Wuebben bought a camera and started a YouTube channel (NY2LAinacab) with the profile: "Heading from NYC to LA. In. a. cab. Follow us at @randyrove and @johnbelitsky #ny2la"
The pair convinced cabbie Mohammed Alam to drive them cross-country for just $5,000. Had the meter been running, the trip could have cost around $17,000.
Keep an eye out for a New York Yellow Cab as they'll be rolling into town any minute now, having not only proven Belitsky's father wrong but garnering hundreds of press hits for making a story out of it.
"I CAN SEE SMOG AND WE JUST HIT TRAFFIC!!!" Wuebben tweeted shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, pointing out the two internationally recognized indicators for having arrived in Los Angeles. "We are cruisin in HOV lane...."
