Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez admitted Monday that he took performing-enhancing drugs.
"I did take a banned substance," he told ESPN. "And, you know, for that I'm very sorry and deeply regretful," he told ESPN.
The admission follows a Sports Illustrated story published on the Web this weekend that said Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003.
Rodriguez confirmed he took banned drugs from 2001 to 2003 because he felt enormous pressure in 2001 with his new team, the Texas Rangers, to perform at a high level every day.
He said, however, he didn't know "exactly what substance" he was using.
