ANDREA SEABROOK, Host:

Erie's mysterious benefactor may be one of the few people who can actually afford to eat dessert at Serendipity 3 in New York City. It's a whimsical place for sure, with parfaits and ice cream sundaes and delights for children of all ages, but not for all pocketbooks.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

SEABROOK: Serendipity 3's Web site does not mention the latest humiliation. It advertises itself as someplace that takes you down the rabbit hole into a fairytale world. Perhaps they meant to say the mouse hole.

SEABROOK: We want your stories of suppertime woes. If it happened at a previous Thanksgiving, all the better. E-mail your answers to Homework at npr.org, or leave a voicemail message on the Homework hotline at 202-408-5183. That's 202-408-5183. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
