Google to Install Maps at Gas Stations
LINDA WERTHEIMER, host:
So now Web sites know what you want to buy before you buy it, but that's not good enough for some Internet companies. The online search leader Google wants to be everywhere. Our last word in business today is Google pumps.
Starting next month, Google will install its maps feature at some gas stations around the country. About 3,500 gas pumps will be fitted with an Internet connection and a small color screen. You can type in where you want to go, and the pump will display a map. It will even print out directions for you.
Google says that unlike most of its services, this one won't have ads, but will have coupons, but that may be a small price to pay for never again having to admit you're lost. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
