Checking on the Federal Temporary Aid System

The federal money that goes into the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids program -- also known as CalWORKS -- comes through a federal program called Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF.
TANF was the product of welfare reform in the 1990s, worked out by President Clinton and the Republican Congress. It replaced the old federal program, Aid to Families with Dependent Children.
For a sense of the program's results, Robert Siegel talks with Sharon Parrott, director of the Welfare Reform and Income Support Division at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
